Respiratory therapists Allison Krutsinger from Cambridge and Jenny Bush from Greenwood helped Susanna VonEssen, M.D., in screening for Alpha1 Antitrypsin and spirometry screening for lung conditions during Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island.

Mary Carlson, APRN is Dr. VonEssen’s research coordinator and provided the oversight for the Alpha1 screenings.  During the three-day event, held Sept. 14-16, 270 spirometries were performed, as well as multiple screens for Alpha1.

Every year since the beginning of Husker Harvest Days, Dr. VonEssen has had a booth to provide screenings, spirometry and face masks to farmers for exposure to dust and toxins in the farming environment.  Dr. VonEssen is a key researcher at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the field of farm exposure and lung disease.
