Goals

  • To encourage and develop on a state wide basis educational programs for those persons interested in the field of respiratory care.
  • To advance the science, technology, ethics and art of respiratory care through institutes, meetings, lectures, educational opportunities and the preparation and distribution of a newsletter and other materials.
  • To facilitate cooperation between respiratory care personnel and the medical profession, hospitals, service companies, industry, and other agencies within the state interested in respiratory care.

article thumbnailThe NSRC is proud to announce this month’s Respiratory Showcase-Saint Francis Medical CenterSince 1887, Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE has carried out their mission of building a healthier community by providing increasing sophisticated healthcare to all Central Nebraskans.  Saint Francis Medical Center has recently opened a nine floor patient tower and with over 100 physicians and more than 1,300 employees it has become the regional referral center.  With this great addition, the hospital gained their first ever pulmonologist; Dr. Salam Salman.  With his arrival, the respiratory staff has already began to provide more services and are looking forward...

article thumbnailThe NSRC is proud to present this month’s Respiratory Showcase, Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital-Cardiopulmonary Services.Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital is located in south central Nebraska’s Adams County in the town of Hastings, population nearly 33,000.  Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital was established over 85 years ago by Mr. and Mrs. William H. Lanning after their only child, Mary, died of pneumonia at the age of 21. Because of this tragedy, the Lanning’s felt that people needing medical care should be able to obtain it from a hospital close to home.  Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital has continued the Lanning’s goal throughout the years continuing expansion...

  • 'Kickin' Asthma' A School-Based Program, Enables Children And Adolescents To Better Manage Chronic Disease
    A new study has found that a school-based asthma education program conducted in the Oakland, California school district was shown to reduce symptoms and increase the number of days that children who suffered from asthma were able to go to school. The study will be published this month in the Journal of School Health. Nearly 10% or 6.8 million children have asthma in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Budesonide Sprays Can Be Regarded As Safe For Pregnancy
    Women can usually keep using the same asthma drugs they were using before they got pregnant. Budesonide sprays are the best studied and can be regarded as safe. More trials of other essential medicines are necessary however. According to the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG), more data from trials could reassure women who worry about the safety of their drugs during pregnancy.

    Researchers in Finland are reporting identification of the first potential "biomarker" that could be used in development of a sputum test for early detection of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). That condition, which causes severe difficulty in breathing - most often in cigarette smokers - affects 12 million people in the United States.
