Chadron Community Hospital is a 25 bed critical access hospital that has acute and skilled care capabilities. The hospital is located in the beautiful Pine Ridge area of the northern panhandle of Nebraska and provides care to patients from a fifty mile radius including the communities of Chadron, Crawford, Harrison, Hay Springs, Rushville and Gordon, NE as well as Oelrichs, SD and others from South Dakota and Wyoming.
The Cardiopulmonary team includes Department Manager Jean Martin, CRT; Traci Westemeier, CRT, and Heather Sayaloune, LPN, who is a new graduate of the Respiratory Care program at Southeast Community College.
The department is staffed 7AM – 4PM Monday – Friday and returns to cover 7PM treatments. We give all scheduled treatments during the weekend and are available on call at all other times. Our duties include routine respiratory care, aerosol therapy, EKG’s, stress testing (including nuclear med), pulmonary rehab, holter monitors, and pulmonary function studies. We are called for all codes, traumas, newborn emergencies and any treatments needed in the ER.
We are also in charge of the outreach clinics. Specialists from Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Rapid City, South Dakota come in on a regular schedule to see patients in Chadron. Some of these include orthopedics, neurosurgery, neurology, cardiology, internal medicine/oncology, ENT, audiology, and plastic surgery.
Along with community education at the annual health fair, we have also volunteered our time with pulmonary function testing for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and Health Education classes at Chadron State College.
