The NSRC is Proud to Present This Month’s Respiratory Showcase Valley County Health System
Steve Kusek is Director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Valley County Health System in Ord. He is the only Respiratory Therapist at the Health System.
Valley County Health System is a small hospital, serving residents in several surrounding counties. Steve works Monday through Friday and is on call during nights and weekends. During the week, he sees patients for pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, EEGs, EKGs, stress tests and pulmonary rehab. He also evaluates patients on the floor and helps determine patients’ Durable Medical Equipment needs. Steve is also involved with intubations, codes, traumas, C-sections, ambulance transports, and ACLS, PALS and NRP classes.
Steve has worked for Valley County Health System for 2 ½ years and began the pulmonary rehab program that is offered five days per week. In addition, he started the sleep clinic, which tests around one to two patients each week. With the sleep clinic’s equipment, Steve was able to perform EEGs. To support community education, Steve also gives lectures to the community on sleep, COPD and asthma.
